Czech Periodical Press in Region off Cheb in Years 1945
Dlouhá, Petra ; Köpplová, Barbara (advisor) ; Krejcar, Robert (referee)
The main aim of my diploma thesis is to capture the development of the periodic press in Cheb after the end of the Second World War. It is a period which brought extensive demographic and socio-economic changes to Czechoslovakia and especially the border regions. That is why this topic must be set in a wider context. At the beginning, I describe the history of the Cheb region, which, from its earliest history, had a distinct position within our country. I also researched the general issue of Czech-German relations after the foundation of the independent Czechoslovak Republic. A chapter in the thesis deals specifically with what happened during the Second World War in Cheb. The main emphasis is however on the first months in the Cheb region after the war. The reason for this is that it was a period of essential reversal in Cheb. Everything that used to be German was now to become Czech. It was essential for the newcomers to receive information in their mother tongue. The core of the thesis is the development of the Czech regional press in the Cheb region. In the year 1945 there only was a single journal published in Cheb - Chebsko. My thesis will present this journal, which first came out shortly after the end of the Second World War. I will also make a quantitative analysis of the first publishing...
"Oit wird me!" The Kraslice German. Phonetic structure and variation-linguistical classification
Mareš, Jiří ; Blahak, Boris (advisor) ; Šemelík, Martin (referee)
This thesis deals with the topic of a diatopically spoken variant of German language in the region of Kraslice, the north-western part of Bohemia (Eger/Cheb). The research that was carried out stands on dialogues based on the so called Wenker - Sätze phrases (1878), such dialogues were recorded and then phonetically transcribed and analyzed. Using these methods and materials, the phonetic structure of vowels was reconstructed and the results were variation-linguistically classified. Among the expected features, the north-bavarian and east-franc influences prevail as expected. Despite those there are many signs of the north(west)-bohemian too. Next the question pursued of how the German Graslitzer developed after 1945.

Hasil, Jan ; Klír, Tomáš (advisor) ; Losert, Hans (referee) ; Kalhous, David (referee)
262 EARLY MEDIEVAL CULTURAL CONTACTS BETWEEN BAVARIA AND BOHEMIA The Ph.D. thesis focusing on the topic of Czech-Bavarian cultural contacts in the Early Middle Ages was assigned in 2010 to develop the author's MA thesis, which was conceived as a probe into sources and a program study699 as well in order to form the first comprehensive monograph of this date of these professionally and regionally fragmented issues. In those times, the assignment of the thesis assumed "to decide whether there is an objective historical significance of this concept, or whether (and how) the meaning of this term has shifted in time, and how should this legacy be treated in the prepared thesis." Furthermore, five material-oriented topics were defined in order to test the overall theoretical concept on parts of otherwise too broadly conceived sources: (i) a study focusing on interpretative possibilities of langsaxes in the context of Early Medieval row- grave cemeteries; (ii) an attempt to narrow the regionalization of the s-shaped temple rings occurrence in connection with the settlement context; (iii) revision of archaeological evidence from the Cheb (Eger) castle; (iv) a chapter focusing on the issue of Early Medieval elites in north-eastern Bavaria; and finally (v) a discussions on the current concepts of toponomastic...

Main goal of this thesis is research of everyday life specifics in Cheb region as a region on the west border of the former Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and eventual interception of these specifics in regional or national press in last twenty years before the Velvet Revolution. The base for the research became the weekly magazine Hraničář as the only regional newspaper published throughout the whole studied period and the research was conducted using searches of the sample chosen in advance (years 1970, 1971, 1980, 1981, 1989, 1990). Any predicative facts about the local newspapers, the composition of the editorial staff and possible editors impact (respectively presumed inability to influence) on the newspaper content in a system of directive management and reflections of the Chebsko region as a border region in the immediate vicinity of the Iron Curtain were of interest of the research. The core of the work is to draw a picture of everyday life of "ordinary" citizens of the region with regard to the above facts and focusing on different aspects of life in society such as the local economy, agriculture or cultural, sport and social life in the city. Jaška, Petr ; Šafařík, Petr (advisor) ; Kučera, Jaroslav (referee)
Thesis addresses the expulsion of Germans from Cheb region in 1946. Aim of my work was to map out the process in the region and compare its dynamics and parameters with countrywide numbers. I focused on expulsion trains were dispatched from the Cheb region into American and Soviet occupation zones. When mapping the process I used mainly archival materials SOKA Cheb and Cheb chronicle of the years 1945 - 1947. This work is a compilation of historical description and analysis. Based on the sources I was able to describe the whole process, although the accuracy of the numbers decrease at the end. This is mainly due to the lack of documentation to transports to the Soviet zone in the summer of 1946. Despite this deficiency that I found out that the process of expulsion from the Cheb region has been slowed compare to the countrywide numbers. Expulsion of Germans from the Cheb region culminated in the late summer and early autumn, so in a time when main wave of displacement of the German population in the whole country ended. Facility and equipment of transport trains have been according to standards set in the directives governing local authorities but manage and elaborated by the Ministry of the Interior. The main findings of the work is the fact that the expulsion of Germans from Cheb region had...
